My SoHo lingerie shopping experience not quite fitting the mark (or way off the mark as you read in Part 1), I wandered West to a Great British branch of a lingerie giant.
Ever a fan of their flamboyant shows I ventured into the throbbing, townhouse style store. We’ll call this Store V.
The energy from the throngs of shoppers in this packed store could’ve powered the National Grid.
It was exciting; like the first steps into a night club.
I pushed through the crowd; as I peered above their heads I could see every wall was adorned with lingerie. Banks of drawers filled with beautiful bras & briefs. Every conceivable colour.
Every conceivable size?
Sadly not for me; I already knew 30 backs weren’t an option in Store V. But that didn’t stop me ooh-ing and aah-ing at the display of delicates around me.
Loosing myself in the excitement, I watched as women swarmed around me – arms full of bras – in search of fitting rooms and cash desks.
My Lingerie Pro Persona kicked in. What was I doing!? What were all these women doing??
I was standing by idle, totally caught in the moment, watching hundreds of women buy the wrong size bra.
I had two choices: ambush unsuspecting shoppers with unsolicited fitting advice or get out.
Biting my lip as I deliberated… Could I help just one person find their actual size?
But this was a frenzy. I’ve helped women in other stores while I’ve been ‘off-duty’ before. But Store V was mob heavy with millennials. I didn’t stand a chance.
I slinked out of the store disappointed that I couldn’t buy anything for myself, but that I’d chickened out of exercising my Bra Fitting Super Power too.
Not all lingerie shopping experiences are created equally. But then if they were the 80/20 Rule* wouldn’t apply either, and I’d be out of a job.
*It’s absolutely true 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. Now I know they’re buying them from Store V.
